Just take it slow while having a local punch made up of rum, beer, and syrup or else your head will start spinning around! You can have beer, rum and French brandy which are regular drinks of the local.

Pointe-a-Pitre international airport is the nearest airport and Guadeloupe’s important airport. It is located 1.9 miles to the north of city center of Pointe-a-Pitre.

The attraction and destination aren’t that distanced from each other. So it’s good if you go walking start with Place de la Victoire followed by museums then markets.

Havana is filled with richness of architectural buildings which came from its colonists in and through as it was the main transshipment point among the new world and old world met. The style of the buildings and fortress differ from Spanish, Moorish, Italian, Greek and Roman. So it’s like mixture of culture, tradition and custom at one place. The whole different styles bring out the uniqueness about this place.

Now many architectural buildings are under renovation and museum lovers are going to toss coins for which museum first to visit in the city as many more museum are about to open soon.

You can’t miss out the Malecon beach which elongates more or less length of Havana. It’s a great place the romantic lovers to walk along the sea shore with promenade juice in their hands. The Malecon also offer a great view, especially during sunrise and sunset, of Havana’s cityscape. From other perspective and impressive sight of the city try going to the giant Cristo statue which is across the bay or the Morro – Cabaria.

Still trying to figure out where to start the excursion from, suggestion would be from the El Capitolio, which means in English- National Capital Building. At first look it seems like you are watching Washington DC but it’s just, from the outside, similar to it. The building first was the tallest building in Havana till 1950’s but it’s the world’s third biggest indoor statue.

You should carry camera for this site, the sunset is beautiful from here. Except for the scenery the castle is good example of uniqueness of Havana, the Morro Castle (fortress) and in Spanish known as Castillo de los Tres Reyes Magos Del Morro is made by an Italian engineer as when it was being made Cuba was under Spain. The fortress is made on the entrance of Havana and can be viewed from miles across the port.

El Cristo de La Havana, Christ of Havana, is situated to the other side of the bay. It’s the biggest sculpture, approximately sixty-six feet long and base is about three meters. It weights around three hundred and twenty tons. The marble was specially brought from Italy and blessed by the Pope Pius XII. The most amazing thing should I say or sad, I don’t know, the statue of Christ doesn’t have eyes carved with intention that he is looking from anywhere to be seen.

The most magnificent place to visit is the cemetery cum open air museum at the downtown of the Havana city, also known as Vedado. The colon cemetery or Cementerio de Cristóbal Colón, which is named after Christopher Columbus, is about one hundred and forty acres and has many sculptures and about eight lakh graves. It’s the most renowned cemetery in Latin American. It was built in 1876 and attracts tourist and photographers from all over the place.

The prize to get from here is Cuban cigar, rum and fine art. The only place to stop for shopping is at the Feria de la Artesania which is just two blocks ahead from the Cathedral. There you will find everything you need from artisan chocolates to perfume and silver sterling’s to hand made fans.

Havana is hot and humid all over the year and between May and October, it has rainy afternoons. Between July and November its official hurricane season, so be careful if you’re planning during that period.

Havana is about three kilometers away from Cuba and it only takes ten to fifteen minutes to reach there. The Jose Marti International Airport is the nearest airport to Havana. The railways should be avoided because the some train lines have been suspended in order to bring new train lines. The bus facilities are good as the major destination are well connected by roadways.

Tips

The Cuban have two surnames behind their Christian name so don’t get confuse, use the first surname.

The Puerto Plata port is the money-making port of the north coast of Dominican Republic and was established in 1502. Dominican Republic has very unique culture; French dance and ballet can be seen in Cibao and Santiago, Victorian and English architecture can be seen in Puerto Plata and Jews who fled from Germany during Hitler rule still call Sosua their home.

In Sosua you will get to see number of reefs, canyons, shipwrecks, and precincts. It just takes twenty minutes to reach Sosua. And about an hour and a half away from the port there is this spot called Gri Gri lagoon which is good for snorkeling. Most of the dive depths are fifty to one hundred and thirty feet under water. Most of the big hotels at Puerto Plata help in organizing diving and snorkeling for their guest.

The beaches are another attraction in and around Puerto Plata. The place has stunning stretch of golden sand and is fronted by the coral reefs. The whole area of beach is about three lakh square meters and most in demand beach is between Cofresi to Sosua among the tourists. The most famous beach in Puerto Plata is Long Beach which is situated in the east, beside the Malecon. The beaches to the west of Puerto Plata, Confresi and Sosua, are dominated by the opulent resorts.

Cable Car Tours (Teleferico)

At your stay at Puerto Plata, one can’t miss out the cable car tour. The cable car starts from the uppermost peak of the mount Isabel which is about 2555 ft above sea level and gives a fantastic landscape view of the places around Puerto Plata. The whole trip will be memorable and remarkable excursion for the tourists visiting here. The cable car tour will only cost less then eight dollars.

Apart from the cable car on the top of the mount, there are botanical gardens, statue of Christ and restaurants with beautiful scenic view around.

Whale watching

Between January and April, thousand of Humpback whales migrate from the North Atlantic to the bay at Samana each winter to mate and reproduce. The bay is just approximately seventy miles away from the north east of Puerto Plata. Around fifteen hundred of humpback whales come here at the bay. The Samana bay is considered to be one of the best places in the world to watch whales by the World Wildlife Fund. You can see male whales competing to lure female whales to mate and nursery shelter for the baby whales.

San Felipe Fort

San Felipe Fort is the only trace of Puerto Plata’s colonial history. The fort is situated on a little peninsula at the Bahia de Puerto Plata. There is also a small historical museum which will give you brief about the independence movement about the place. You will find number of tour guides to show you around the place with meager rate.

Ecological Tour

Puerto Plata features tropical oasis which is fifteen minutes away from the port. The forest looks beautiful with diverse flora and fauna; don’t miss out the river which is encircled with mangroves.

The place has excellent nightlife for the tired tourists after whole day activities. The most of the bars, cafes, casinos and clubs opens up. The most famous casino here is the Ocean World Casino, the whole building is aquatic themed casino which displays unusual mosaics work of whales, dolphins and tropical fishes. It is the landmark with beautiful sight of marine.

Puerto Plata Gregorio Luperon Airport is the nearest airport from the port around eleven miles. You will get cars and buses to get around the place. Transportation is not a problem here.
